Families hold memorial service for EgyptAir crash victims

Families hold memorial service for EgyptAir crash victims

Egypt

Hundreds of family and friends gathered at a church in Cairo to bid farewell to EgyptAir flight attendant Yara Hani Tawfik, one of the 66 people on board the plane which crashed in the Mediterranean.

United in their grief, relatives and co-workers spoke of their shock at hearing the news.

“I got the news like everyone, I found her picture on television, I was shocked but I thought that she did something good, maybe she got promoted, then I found out about the accident. I couldn’t believe what had happened and I still can’t.” a relative said.

EgyptAir crew head, Tamer Essam added “This is of course tragic for us all, this is the nature of our job, so we try to get over our sorrow and sadness and we continue to work. First and foremost, this is our company and this is our country.”

EgyptAir pledged to keep relatives informed of the latest developments, including the process of collecting human remains and examining DNA to return the victims to their families.
