“We have many young Senegalese who go to Libya from Niger, waiting for the slightest opportunity to embark on makeshift canoes for a better Europe. We must work more on security situation in Libya,” Senegal’s Foreign Minister Mankeur N’Diaye said.

Italy is the main landing point for most African migrants.

“Our intention with the Compact Migration is to offer an Euro-African pact in exchange for large investments. We want to work together and manage all flows and migration and also the security aspect,” Mario Giro, Italian deputy foreign minister said.

Italy and Germany have recently explored investing nearly 10 billion euros in structural projects in seven African countries.
