Football players and fans worldwide are paying tribute to 26-year-old Cameroonian footballer who died on Friday after he collapsed during a league game in Romania.
The midfielder is suspected to have suffered a cardiac arrest after featuring for only seven minutes in the second half as a substitute for Dinamo Bucharest against Viitorul Constanta.
His team confirmed his death on their Facebook page saying: “Dinamo tonight lost footballer Claude Patrick Ekeng forever. On behalf of all of Dinamo, sincere condolences to the bereaved family. God rest his soul.”
Cameroonian football association also confirmed his death via their Twitter page on Friday.
A vigil was held on the grounds where he lost his life hours after the incident as reported by Romanian football journalist Emanuel Rosu. Fans also trooped to the home grounds to light candles for Ekeng.

The Romanian Football Federation has suspended all football activities across all levels in the country in honour of Patrick Ekeng. In a statement released on its website, the FA said they will cover all expenses of teams supposed to play away matches in the Romanian cup final.
Ekeng’s former team Cordoba FC also expressed condolences to the player as soon as the news broke and in his honour, observed a minute silence before training on Saturday.
