Mali
Six servicemen have been arrested in Mali for alleged arms theft.
Two senior military officials were reportedly suspended and later reintegrated after close to 26 kalashnikovs were reported missing.
The senior military officials are being investigated by Malian officials.
Investigators are struggling to locate the weapons as well as explain the rationale for the theft.
Analysts suggest the theft could be linked to the ongoing reintegration process whereby rebels are expected to hand over arms before being integrated into the public service.
There are also fears that a mafia network within the military might be involved in helping those who do not have arms but wish to be integrated go through, analysts say.
Although considered suspicious for now, Malian officials have promised they will not show mercy to anyone found culpable in the arms theft.
