Boko Haram fighters engaged in a fierce battle with Nigerian soldiers on Monday in the northeast of the country, the army said.

“Boko Haram terrorists attacked troops of 113 Battalion … the troops have been battling the insurgents since (the) early hours of today,” army spokesman Sani Usman said in a brief statement.
No further details were immediately available from the remote area in Kareto where the clashes occurred.
Boko Haram has continued a seven-year insurgency in Nigeria killing several people with many others displaced from their homes.
