Zinedine Zidane delighted with his 'best night so far'

Champions League

Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane couldn’t contain his delight after his team secured their spot in the Champions League semi-finals with the Frenchman hailing their achievement.

Cristiano Ronaldo single-handedly won the match with a sensational hat-trick.

“I have the sensation of a job well done. It wasn’t easy to say the truth, but I’m very happy and very proud about everything they’ve done. We had a special night, we achieved what we wanted and I’m very happy for the players because what they did together was phenomenal,” Zidane said.

“Well, what can I say about Cristiano Ronaldo. He is proving what he is, the best player in the World. He is a special player but at the same time Cristiano needs the whole team. Overall what he wants to do is to speak about what the team has done together,” he said about the goals scorer.

Kevin de Bruyne strike gave Man City a Champions League semi-final spot for the first time in their history.

Pellegrini could face his replacement Pep Guardiola in the next round if Bayern Munich make the last four.

“Well I think it’s a very great achievement for the club, not only to be in the semi-final of the Champions League and to be in the best four teams in Europe. But also I think in the style of play that we never change, maybe a lot of people thought that tonight because we drew in Paris that we’ll try to speculate and play for a draw 0-0 here. For the beginning I think we must play and think like a big team must do, so I’m very happy to continue with our style that I never change,” City coach Manuel Pellegrini said.

The draw for the Champions League semi-finals is on Friday, with the ties to be played on 26-27 April and 3-4 May. The final is in Milan on 28 May.
