The event aims to demonstrate solidarity with the Sahrawi people.
“This marathon is a message to the international community and also a message to Morocco, as Sahrawis we believed that our victory is certain and inevitable and we will continue to struggle to achieve our goal,” said Ahmed Tanji, one of the participants.
This year, the race was timed to coincide with the 40th anniversary of the declaration of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic.
Over the years, the marathon has raised awareness and sensitized the world of about a 37-year long conflict in the Western Sahara region.
