Cafonline.com quotes the long serving African football chief as follows;
“We are confident that you will restore Fifa’s image backed by your career, skills, passion for football, understanding of the issues related to the future of football, and your desire to develop our sport around the four corners of the world,
“Be assured of the continued support of Caf, African members of the new Fifa Council, as well as our commitment to strengthening the excellent relationship between Caf and Fifa,” Hayatou concluded.
Despite CAF’s open decision in a letter to back the candidacy of Bahrain’s Sheikh Salman, the continental bloc which has the largest number of voters has backed the Swiss to deliver on his promises of cleaning up the sport’s soiled image.
Infantino takes over from his fellow countryman, Sepp Blatter, after polling 115 votes as against 88 by his closest rival Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim al-Khalifa in the second round of February 26 election.
