South Sudan
Bentiu camp in South Sudan is home to over 120,000 internally displaced persons who fled violence since civil war broke out in the country in 2013.
It is among the 7 protection of civilians sites that the United Nations has set up in South Sudan and over time Bentiu has grown to be the largest . The refugees in the camp usually receive psychosocial support as the experience of violence, displacement and confinement across the sites has contributed to community-wide emotional distress.
According to a recent study done by the United Nations Development Programme, 65 % of displaced persons in South Sudan have lost a loved one due to the war and suffer from psychological disorders.
The programme puts keen focus on women who have had to bear the harsh realities of civil strife.
