A teenage girl strapped with an explosive vest from Boko Haram to wreck havoc on internally displaced persons, in Dikwa, Bornu state, in Nigeria, ripped-off her vest refusing to participate in the attack.

However, two other teenage girls with her, strolled into the middle of hundreds of people lining up for food and detonated the explosives on them killing 58 people and injuring 78 others.

It was the most destructive attack launched by Boko Haram in recent months.

A Civilian joint Task Force (CJTF) fighter, Modu Awami on Thursday disclosed that the girl is about 14 years old. He said the girl told him that she was afraid and that she knew detonating the bomb, will kill many people.

A rescue official revealed that the girl has also given information to the authorities on other terrorist attacks planned by Boko Haram.

Meanwhile, the US embassy in Nigeria on Thursday condemned the recent attack on Dikwa.

The country has restated its continued support for the Nigeria government in battling the insurgents.

“The US Embassy condemns the reported suicide attacks on internally displaced persons in Dikwa town, Borno State,that occurred on Feb. 9” it said.
