Burundi
The United States on Wednesday accused the government of Rwanda of trying to “destabilize” neighbouring Burundi.
“We have seen a number of reports from our colleagues on the ground which suggest that the Rwandan government is involved in destabilizing activities in Burundi,” said the Assistant Secretary of State for Africa Linda Thomas-Greenfield, before the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US Senate.
Before the same congressional committee, Thomas Perriello, special envoy of the US government for the African Great Lakes, reported as “credible information on the recruitment of Burundian refugees in camps in Rwanda to participate in armed attacks in Burundi. “
This is the first time the US government is publicly citing Kigali authorities in the crisis in neighbouring Burundi.
