Kenya
Kenya’s Olympics Committee Chairman, earlier on Tuesday said his country may pull out of the Rio 2016 Olympic games due to concerns on the Zika virus outbreak.
Kipchoge Keino was quoted by the Reuters news agency saying: “Obviously, we are not going to risk taking Kenyans there if this Zika Virus reaches epidemic levels”.
Later in the day Stephen Soi who leads the Kenyan team when questioned further on the issue said “it is too early to make a determination on the status of the virus during the games”.
Adding that the Rio 2016 Olympic organisers are duly informing them of measures been taken to ensure participants and fans are safe from the virus.
Rio 2016 Olympic organisers have tried to allay fears saying the Zika virus spread will decline with the arrival of winter during the Games.
