An 18-member Election Steering Committee has been inaugurated by the Electoral Commission of Ghana, to co-ordinate the activities of the various stakeholders within the electoral process to ensure a successful presidential and parliamentary elections on November 7.
Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Charlotte Osei will chair the committee made up of the representatives from the National Peace Council, the National Commission on Civic Education, the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, the National Service Scheme and Security Agencies.
“ The Electoral Commission Act empowers the EC to set up committees whenever necessary and we need the services of other institutions…This year’s election is relatively bigger than the previous elections and we would need experienced hands in executing our mandate”, Osei said.
She announced that the number of polling stations have been increased to 29, 000 and 295 collation centers across the country.
Ghana has under gone succesful elections devoid of violence, every 4 years. The country is seem has a beacon of democracy across the continent.
