Rugby: Kenya, South Africa through to Wellington Sevens main cup quarters

Kenya

Memories of Kenya’s sudden-death semi-final win over New Zealand in Wellington three years ago will come flooding back when Africa’s Olympic qualifiers take on the reigning tournament champions in Sunday’s first Cup quarter-final.

The Kiwis looked set to face cross-Tasman rivals Australia in the last eight but TJ Webber’s late try saw them beat South Africa who now play the Aussies instead.

En route to the quarters, the Kenyans dismantled Canada and Portugal 37-7 and 26-5 respectively, before falling to Australia 17-12, to finish second in Group D.

South Africa’s Blitzboks lost narrowly to the hosts New Zealand 19-14, and will now face Australia in the Cup quarter-finals of the series on Sunday after they finished second in Pool A.
