At least five police officers were killed by a roadside bomb along a coastal road on in Kenya near the Somali boarder. This was according to the police sources in Kenya.
According to a high ranking police officer who required anonymity, five police officers were killed in the explosion in Baure, approximately 60 km from Somali border. The three major daily newspapers in Kenyan reported different numbers of casualties as the Daily Nation reported five police officers killed, the standard identified six while the star noted seven.
This is seen as one of the new tactics deployed by the Al-Shabaab after the recent attack on a Kenyan military base in Southern Somali.
As a result of this attack, Kenyan army have shifted their base closer to the two countries’ boarders. This is according to the local dailies in Kenya.
The Kenyan army has denied any military withdrawal from Somalia, since its encroachment in November 2011 to date.
“What has led us in Somalia it is the liberation and the impunity of these areas, and the Mission continues,” assured David Obonyo, KDF spokesperson.
Al-Shabaab claims to have killed more than 100 Kenyans soldiers and captured several other during the attack on El-Adde. Though the validity of this information cannot be verified by the independent source. However, they have broadcast photos of tens of dead Kenyans soldiers from the destroyed base.
