Ivory Coast
The Ivorian National Assembly, has condemned what they referred to as the “ unfriendly attitude” of Burkina Faso to have issued an arrest warrant for their speaker of parliament Guillaume Soro.
The Members of Parliament have “demanded the outright withdrawal” of the warrant.
The office of the National Assembly, said they are “outraged and condemns, in the strongest terms, this attitude that violates the immunity of the President of the National Assembly of Cote d’Ivoire “
The warrant issued by the Burkinabe court “could sacrifice on the altar of political interests of two peoples who have a long tradition of friendship and brotherhood,” they added.
Guillaume Soro is wanted by the Burkinabe authorities for his involvement in a failed coup on September 17.
The Ivory Coast has “historical relations with Burkina and for them to have issued an arrest warrant against her second personality, I think it is in violation of diplomatic relations between the two countries,” Téfhour Kone, an MP close to Soro said.
On Monday, the Ivorian presidency rejected the arrest warrant and promised to settle the dispute through diplomatic channels.
