We need to fight and integrate against terrorism - President Kabore

Burkina Faso

Burkina Faso President, Roch Marc Christian Kabore has affirmed the State’s position to fight al Qaeda fighters who had put a siege at a hotel on Friday night.

Kabore visited the site of the attack in the capital Ouagadougou on Saturday morning.

“We are in the Sahel area. I have already said in my speech that we are not outside of this terrorist situation and as a result it is important that with neighbouring countries we share information and also share our military means so that we can fight firmly against this. We must also demonstrate that the government of Burkina Faso as in the past never retreats and will not start retreating today,” he said.

Kabore saluted the French and US forces who helped to put an end to the siege.

“I am taking this opportunity to salute our security forces, the doctors and the Red Cross and all the good people who participated in this. We will very soon be able to provide the full picture but we call on the public to be vigilant and courageous because now we need to fight and integrate against terrorism as our daily struggle to develop the country.”

29 people have perished after terrorists attacked a prestigious hotel in the capital Ouagadougou.

Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the raid.
