South Africa’s ruling party – African National Congress on Tuesday laid charges against real estate agent Penny Sparrow over her facebook post that compared black beach-goers to monkeys
The ANC says Sparrow`s remarks are reminiscent of the apartheid attitude towards South Africa’s black citizens.
“It is troubling that bigots who once kept their views to themselves now seem emboldened,” party spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said.
In a Facebook post, Sparrow complained about black people littering beaches during New Year’s celebrations, saying – she will address black South Africans as monkeys.
Sparrow later deleted the post and apologised, saying she did not “mean it to be a personal insult to anyone”.
The ANC says the opposition party, the Democratic Alliance, who Sparrow is a member of – is a breeding ground for racists
