Paulo Duarte returns for second stint as Burkina Faso head coach

Burkina Faso

Portuguese tactician Paulo Duarte is back as head coach of Burkina Faso after replacing Gernot Rohr at the helm of the Stallions, FBF chairman Sita Sangaré told AFP on Tuesday.

“Paulo Duarte is the new coach,” said Colonel Sita Sangare the president of the FBF, speaking to AFP on telephone.

Mr. Sangare did not however say the precise duration of the contract period of this old tactician, often considered Burkinabé favourite. Duarte was sacked last August by the Tunisian club CS Sfaxien.

Paulo Duarte, 46, has already led Burkina Faso from 2007 to 2012, and replaces German Gernot Rohr, who resigned just a year after his appointment. Duarte also served as coach of Gabon between 2012-2013.

Burkina Faso are currently lie third in Group D of the 2017 AFCON qualifiers after winning 2-0 at home over Comoros and losing 1-0 to Botswana. They have booked their place in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup qualifiers after seeing off Benin 3-2 on aggregate.
